This is the output from java -version:

This is the output from mvn -version:

How do I force Maven to use 1.7?

Bug in Maven: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-4226

Workaround:

echo JAVA_HOME=`/usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.7` | sudo tee -a /etc/mavenrc
